In addition to a number of campus safety resources at NIU, every residence hall has:

  • solid core room doors with deadlocking latch hardware.
  • mandatory room door lock core changes when a key is reported missing.
  • corridor entrance doors locked at all times.
  • key operation of elevators at all times.
  • identification checks of residents and guests after 11 p.m.
  • requirement to escort guests at all times.
  • fines and disciplinary actions for violations of security regulations.
  • professional staff on call 24 hours a day.
  • Community Safety Centers in each residential area.

For students with disabilities, medical needs, or other situations that require accommodations or modifications to your Housing & Residential Services booking, we work with the Disability Resource Center, Health Services, the Counseling & Student Development Center, and the Gender & Sexuality Resource Center to determine what adaptations are appropriate and how we can best meet these needs. These floors prohibit alcohol possession or use by students or their guests regardless of age. Students under 21 are not allowed to have alcoholic beverages anywhere on NIU's campus.

All units are equipped with a stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, washers and dryers. No other furnishings are provided.

Winter Break Housing

Only students living in halls designated for Winter Break Housing may remain in the halls between the fall and spring semesters. An additional contract must be completed.

Summer Housing

In order to sign up for summer housing, new students to the University must be admitted to NIU and be enrolled for the 2016 summer semester. Currently enrolled students who are applying for summer school housing must be enrolled for either the 2016 spring semester or the 2016 fall semester.
