Greenhouse Gas Inventory

In 2021, NIU conducted its first greenhouse gas inventory for the years 2019 and 2020 using the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) Clearpath software platform. Copies of the greenhouse gas inventory report are available as DOCX and PDF. Findings from the inventory showed that NIU released 123,297 metric tons of CO2e in 2019 and 86,585 metric tons of CO2e in 2020. Energy consumption is the leading contributor to NIU's emissions, followed by transportation. Campus closure due to COVID-19 impacted these results due to reductions in the transportation sector.
