There is global consensus that climate change is the defining challenge of the 21st century. NIU is committed to transformative change that protects the future of our institution, and the communities that it serves. The Sustainability and Climate Action Planning (SCAP) Taskforce will create NIU’s first campus-wide sustainability and climate action plan that will provide a framework for implementing these changes.
Timeline
Fall 2022
Convene steering and working committees, and launch the SCAP task force.
January 2023
Begin drafting a sustainability plan in consultation with campus partners.
June 2023
Release draft plan online for public comment.
August - September 2023
Public town halls and presentations of draft sustainability and climate action plan to relevant groups on campus.
