General fees and 12+ credit hours/semester annually.
Living Expenses
Based on average allowance for on-campus housing and the Huskie Block 19 meal plan, as well as allowance for 2 additional meals per week.

Note: Tuition may be higher, depending on a student's program of study. Rates for Nursing, Computer Science and Engineering majors are listed on the Bursar Office website. Fees do not include the cost of the NIU Student Health Insurance plan. This is a mandatory fee for students who do not otherwise have coverage.

With our truth-in-tuition policy, all first-time, degree-seeking undergraduate U.S. citizens and permanent resident students that graduated from a U.S. high school are eligible for the same fixed tuition rate for four continuous years.

NIU’s domestic tuition rate is available to all U.S. citizens and permanent residents as well as to undocumented students attending a U.S. high school.

Scholarship Consideration
When you apply to NIU by our priority deadline, we’ll automatically consider you for a renewable merit scholarship, a form of financial aid you don’t have to pay back.
Tuition + Fees = $0.
For eligible students, our AIM HIGH Huskie Pledge program guarantees that tuition and general fee costs will be met by grants and/or scholarships for their first year at NIU and potentially beyond.
Just for Rockford Residents
Our Rockford Promise program is for qualifying graduates of Rockford high schools. It covers tuition and general fees for up to four years.
