When you complete our undergraduate application, you'll be asked to specify an admit type. Your admit type determines your application requirements and deadlines. 

You're starting college for the first time.

For high school students or recent graduates with 12 or fewer college credits earned after high school. Dual enrollment and early college credits from high school are fine.

You've been taking college classes elsewhere.

You graduated high school and have 13 or more college credits earned after graduation. You want to transfer those credits to NIU.

You already have a bachelor's degree.

You're seeking a second degree, teacher certification, graduate school prerequisites or additional undergraduate coursework.

You're returning to NIU to finish your degree.

You were previously enrolled as an undergraduate at NIU but left before completing your program.

You want to take classes for one semester only.

You're not pursuing a degree at NIU. You may be enrolled elsewhere or taking courses for personal enrichment.

You're in high school but want to take college courses.

You're currently enrolled in high school and want to take NIU courses for one semester.
