2023 Performance Schedule

Sept. 14 Thursday Extended Rehearsal: 6-9 p.m. in Huskie Stadium to prepare for Red and Black
Sept. 15 Friday Drill rehearsal at the practice field for Red and Black (Huskie Stadium)
Sept. 16 Saturday

Red and Black Marching band Competition Main Show.

Stadium rehearsal 2-4 p.m. Please keep the day open to help run the show, and to perform twice during the day.

This is the one and only event with which we need help from family and friends; ask them to volunteer to help run the show from noon - 10 p.m. Sign-up link will be available the week before the show.
Sept. 22 Friday

Three events!

  • 9 a.m., Load busses at Music Building, summer uniform. All HMB to perform on national TV at Rich Harvest Farms. Perform around 1 p.m., return to campus.
  • Recording session, main show, "North 40" - winds, brass and percussion. Extended rehearsal, 4-6 p.m.
  • 20 piece band to perform at Chessick Center at 6:30 p.m. Wear summer uniform.
Sept. 23 Saturday Game day! NIU vs. Tulsa. Stadium rehearsal, warm-up, tailgate parade and postgame. Schedule TBA. Perform main show.
Sept. 24 Sunday
  • HMB to play at stadium for Corn Classic 10K. 8 a.m. call time. Wear summer uniform.
  • HMB to Jonamac Orchard for performance at 11 a.m. Free entry, and free apple cider donuts!
Sept. 29 Friday No HMB
Oct. 6 Friday
  • Rock tune/musical cheer review at Grassy Knoll. Flip folder check for winds and brass section leader raining after rehearsal, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Prepare for Homecoming!
Oct. 9 Monday Section leaders evaluations (online format)
Oct. 12 Thursday Perform at Homecoming Rally, Downtown DeKalb
  • 5 p.m. Meal provided, full uniform. Palmer Court, downtown DeKalb. 1 bus provided or drive yourself.
  • 5:45 p.m. Warm up, set parade block.
  • 6 p.m. Parade block moves for parade and pep rally.
  • 6:30 p.m. Load bus or cars. Travel to stadium for rehearsal.
  • 6:45-9 p.m. Rehearsal at stadium.
Oct. 13 Friday  Wind Ensemble has a concert at 7 p.m.; dress rehearsal at 6 p.m.
Oct. 14 Saturday Game Day! NIU vs. Ohio. Homecoming Show
  • Morning rehearsal w/ Alumni Band
  • Normal pregame, postgame
  • Music from Queen
Oct. 16 Monday Section Leaders Training, discuss evaluations, after rehearsal
Oct. 20 Friday No HMB. Wind Symphony has a concert at 7 p.m.; dress rehearsal at 6 p.m.
Oct. 21 Saturday Game Day! NIU vs. Eastern Michigan. Morning stadium rehearsal, pregame, postgame, etc.
  • Performing Band Day (Boy Band) music plus new drill
Oct. 25 Wednesday Parade block practice at practice field/North 40
Oct. 26 Thursday Parade block practice at stadium, 6-7:30 p.m. Dismiss early for brass choir performances.
Oct. 27 Friday Rock Tune review at Grassy Knoll. Flip folder review for winds and brass.
Oct. 29 Sunday
  • Sycamore Pumpkin Parade.
  • Call time 11:30 a.m.
  • Full uniform!
  • Performing Thriller and Fight Song
Nov. 3 Friday No HMB. (MTNA at NIU)
Nov. 6 Monday HMB at stadium (subject to change) 4-5:30 p.m.
Nov. 7 Tuesday Game Day! NIU vs. Ball State. Performing Main Show. Schedule TBA.
Nov. 10 Friday No HMB.
Nov. 13 Monday HMB at stadium (subject to change) 4-5:30 p.m.
Nov. 14 Tuesday Game Day! NIU vs. Western Michigan. Performing Main Show. Schedule TBA
Nov. 20 Monday Band Awards Ceremony at Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center. 8-9:30 p.m. Dress to impress!
Nov. 23 - 25 Thanksgiving Break No HMB.
Nov. 28 Tuesday Combined Wind Ensemble/Wind Symphony Concert, with guest composer Shawn Okpebholo!
Dec. 2 Saturday MAC Championship in Detroit, MI. If the team qualifies, we will all go. This game often falls at the very end of the semester. If the team is fortunate enough to qualify, everyone is expected to go!
