Project Locations and Details

Lucinda Avenue Bridge

The City of DeKalb is nearing completion of the Lucinda Avenue bridge reconstruction. The project is scheduled to be completed in September, at which time it will be reopened to normal traffic.

Closing of Normal Road

In August 2023, the City of DeKalb closed Normal Road from West Locust Road to Lucinda Avenue to prepare it for future redevelopment as a greenspace and area that would blend in with the MLK Commons. The space is already being used for events, including Food Truck Wednesdays.

Lucinda Avenue/Normal Road Roundabout

The first phase of the City of DeKalb Lucinda Avenue road improvements project includes reconfiguring the intersection at Normal Road from traditional traffic signals to a roundabout.

This work will include relocating and improving pedestrian crossings and the addition of flashing/audible signaling at key crossings. Construction is anticipated to begin in late spring/early summer 2025.

Additional Related Projects

Bus Stop Shelter

A waiting shelter is being planned for the Greyhound bus stop along Normal Road and is scheduled for completion in summer 2024.

Accessible Entrances

With the closing of Normal Road, other entrances to Swen Parson Hall are being evaluated for the feasibility of accessibility improvements. Currently, an accessible entrance is located about 180 feet from the nearest vehicle drop point.

Lucinda Avenue Road Improvement

A subsequent phase of improvement for the remainder of Lucinda Avenue from the bridge to the east and Annie Glidden Road to the west is in planning and a schedule for that is pending.
