Students who could benefit from the CHANCE program are both recruited to apply to NIU and selected through our holistic admissions process. Students in the CHANCE Program come from a variety of schools in rural, urban and suburban areas and are traditionally underrepresented in college. Many are the first in their families to attend college. If you participated in a mentoring, college prep, or after school program, CHANCE resembles that type of support at the college level. There is no one version of a CHANCE student, except that all CHANCE students are committed to succeeding in college.
Students interested in participating in the CHANCE program are asked to complete our CHANCE Participation Form. Along with students, this form can be completed by anyone, including high school counselors, parents, faculty and staff, to identify a student who could benefit from the CHANCE Program.

I think it's a great program, and it really helps the students who maybe don't have the resources or tools in high school to prepare for college. The counselors do everything they can to work with you to make sure you succeed.
