Honors Study Abroad Night

Join us for an informative look at how the NIU Study Abroad office can help you turn your wishes into action.

Spring 2011 Glimpse Correspondents Program

This is a chance for students, volunteers, teachers, and other travelers to get stories and photography published at a National Geographic supported publication, and get paid for it. Powered by Matador, and supported in part by the National Geographic Society, the Glimpse Correspondents Program provides talented writers and photographers with a $600 stipend as well as one on one editorial training and support to complete an independent journalistic work based on their experience abroad.

It's Go Time Ladies! Tips for Traveling the Globe

Have you dreamed of hiking the Alps, floating in the Dead Sea, or seeing the Pyramids? Don't put your dreams of traveling abroad on hold because of fears of the unknown or financial concerns. You'll leave this discussion with the knowledge necessary for a successful, enjoyable, and budget-friendly trip, so you can travel on your own terms. Novice travelers and experienced globe-trotters are all welcome as the Women's Resource Center discusses how to combine your studies and a passion for exploration and adventure, the pros and cons of traveling solo for women, and tips and advice on how to become a savvy globe trekker!

Phi Beta Delta 2011 Calendar

Check out the 2011 calendar from NIU’s Zeta Gamma Chapter of Phi Beta Delta, full of choice pictures from NIU students’ experiences abroad. For $15, you can pick up this wonderful collection – See Pam Rosenberg at the Study Abroad Office on the 4th floor of Williston Hall to take advantage of this opportunity and treat yourself or someone you know to an international delight. Proceeds from the calendar will assist NIU students with international endeavors, including study abroad scholarships. Credit for the photography can been seen within the calendar under each photo.

Bethany Mock Awarded John E. Bowman Travel Grant for CIEE Study Abroad Program
As a participant in the CIEE Tokyo JS Program, Bethany has been awarded the Bowman Travel Grant! This grant is awarded to students participating in programs in non-traditional destinations. Congratulations, Bethany!

Study Abroad Alum Presents "Photograff" Exhibit

Thomas Graff, NIU art student and Study Abroad alum, is the featured artist at the DeKalb Area Women's Center (DAWC) during the month of May. "Fine Art Meets Photgraphy" examines painting and photography, travels through fashion photography, and exhibits fashion creation.

NIU Student, Camtu Vu, Awarded Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Award
Congratulations, Camtu Vu, who is studying abroad in Argentina this semester! Gilman Scholars receive up to $8,000 to apply towards their study abroad program costs. The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the countries and regions they study in. The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education’s (IIE) Southern Regional Center in Houston, Texas. More information about the scholarship is available on the Gilman website.

This award is reserved for the university's top senior, recognizing excellence in both curricular and extracurricular activities. This past summer, Shay studied abroad in Cambodia, where she conducted research relating to genocide. Congratulations, Shay!
