For academic advising regarding psychology classes, major requirements, or degree progression, please stop by the Advising Appointment Bulletin Board across from the our main office in PM400. Advising is also available via email.

Commuting or prospective students can call the department office at 815-753-0372 to make an advising appointment.

General Advising

Questions regarding general education requirements and other issues not specifically related to either a major or minor in psychology should be directed to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Advising Office.

Online Advising Resources

Advising worksheets are also available for both the B.A. and B.S. in psychology and are useful for spot-checking progress within the major.  However, we want our your experience to be as streamlined and rewarding as possible, so we encourage you to meet  with an advisor each semester for a more individualized and complete assessment of your progression.

Although MyNIU Self Service functions should never be used in place of actual in-person advising, the "View Unofficial Transcript," "View Degree Progress Report," and "Quick What-If" functions are excellent tools for self-assessing degree progression and evaluating the viability of switching or adding majors and minors prior to meeting with your advisor. A printout of your current degree progress report is also very useful for official advising, so consider bringing one with you to any such meeting.
