Intern at the Pick

internship-5a

We enjoy and depend on the work of its passionate student workers, docents and interns. Every semester, the Pick offers internship opportunities giving undergraduate and graduate students valuable hands-on experience working in various capacities of the museum field. Some of the most recent student internship projects include developing and marketing educational programs, collecting and analyzing oral history interviews, rehousing the museum’s textile collection and building custom storage mounts for objects in the collection.

Internships consist of participating in day-to-day museum operations and completing a major project supervised by our professional staff. A museum internship (three credits) and practicum (one credit) are requirements of the interdisciplinary Museum Studies Graduate Certificate Program but museum staff can also customize an internship based on agreed upon project goals for a variety of academic programs.

"My internship with the museum gave me a lot of hands-on experience that you just don't get in the classroom. I was able to gain experience in everything from spatial planning, condition reporting, exhibit preparation, mount making, to textile handling. During my time as an intern, I had great supervisors, bosses and teachers and know if I ever need help or guidance, they will be there.I hope that every person that works with the museum has the same sort of museum family that I had during my time there."
