NEW PARKING CHANGES

  • New Parking Enforcement Hours

Effective immediately, Campus Parking Services has temporarily changed its enforcement hours to 7 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.  This change will allow drivers to park in lots that are currently signed 7AM - 7PM without a permit and meters/pay stations will not have to be paid after 5:00 p.m.  The new enforcement hours will remain in effect until the end of the summer semester.

All NIU campus parking regulations as currently outlined are still in effect.  If needed, a copy of the parking regulations can be obtained from the Campus Parking office or on our department website.  IMPORTANT:  After 5:00 p.m., there are will areas that will be enforced by the NIU Police such as no parking zones, handicapped spaces, reserved spaces, and lots requiring permits at all times.  For anyone needing assistance regarding parking violations after 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, contact the NIU Police at 815-753-1212 (non-emergency).

  • Green Parking Permit

Starting July 5, 2016, Campus Parking will offer a green parking permit free of charge to any interested NIU faculty, staff, student and their visitors.  Green permit holders will be allowed to park remotely on west campus in Lot C3.  Driver, vehicle information, cell phone and email is also required when registering for a green parking permit.

  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR GREEN PERMIT HOLDERS

Green permit holders may be required to move your vehicles from Lot C3 prior to the start of large scheduled events held at the Convocation Center, or for certain athletic events.  During these times, alternative campus parking can be found in Lot X, located north of New Hall.  Parking in any other lot, except when directed, may result in your vehicle being ticket and relocated or towed.  Vehicles that need to be towed will be done at the owner's expense.  When necessary, green permit holders will be notified by email and given information about when and why they should avoid parking in Lot C3.  Also, additional information will be provided about alternative parking options.  In order to help Campus Parking Services keep you informed, it is imperative that all permit holders provide a valid email address and keep their contact information updated in AIMS.

Effective June 1, 2016, Campus Parking Services will be implementing a new policy regarding the payment of tickets, and filing appeals. The policy previously in use that allowed 10 business days will now change to 10 calendar days.  Anyone wishing to appeal a ticket will have 10 calendar days to file the appeal, either online or in the office.  Also, a ticket that is reducible, by half price, will need to be paid by the date that is printed on the ticket (2 calendar days).  If paid by mail, it must be postmarked within 2 calendar days.  Visitors receiving a "No NIU Registration" ticket will have 10 calendar days to call in to have their ticket lowered to the "$5.00 Daily Visitor Fee".  If paid by mail, it must be postmarked within the 10 calendar days.  Tickets can also be paid, or appeals filed, using the Drop Box located on the East side of our building, or 24/7 online at www.niu.edu/parking.

Some parking regulations are enforced when the University is closed (including reserved spaces, handicapped spaces, 15 minute spaces, and "at all times" lots). Any specific questions about enforcement over breaks please contact Campus Parking Services. (815) 753-1045 or parking@niu.edu.
