Welcome to Career Services at Northern Illinois University. We take great pride in helping employers meet their hiring needs. NIU is your source for recruiting options that will help you connect to the talented students your organization seeks.

Meet Our Students

Employers can post openings for internships, full-time jobs, and part-time jobs in the Huskies Get Hired system at no cost. Huskies Get Hired is part of the NACElink Network.

Browse over 2,000 student and alumni resumes through your Huskies Get Hired employer account. Email candidates directly to invite them to apply for your positions.

We offer sixteen private interview rooms with WiFi and an employer lounge, along with greeting areas. To request use of these free spaces and create interview schedules, log in to Huskies Get Hired.

Information sessions can help students learn more about opportunities with your organization and expand your brand on our campus. To request an information session, login to your Huskies Get Hired account.

Information sessions usually take place in NIU’s Holmes Student Center. We suggest that employers plan to advertise their information session to prospective candidates at least three weeks in advance. These sessions are most successful when scheduled in connection with campus interviews or career fairs.

We’re proud to host some of the largest job fairs in the Midwest every fall and spring, along with two internship fairs, a graduate/professional school fair, and a job fair for educators. These events can fill to capacity. We recommend registering early.

Our complete career fairs calendar includes recruitment events for specific majors/industries.

Partnerships are great ways to boost awareness of your organization’s recruiting brand on our campus.

Information About Internships

Internships are an important tool in preparing our students to meet your workforce needs. Internships are short-term, career-related work experiences. To consult about internship recruiting needs, contact Cathy Doederlein, director of Internships & External Relations, at cdoederlein1@niu.edu.

Each academic major or program at NIU establishes its own policies regarding the granting of credit for internship experiences. Information is available for students wishing to pursue academic credit or non-credit transcript notations documenting their internship experiences.

Internships are increasingly being offered to students as paid experiences. Many students are responsible for their own college expenses and/or incur tuition charges as a result of for-credit internships. As a result, paid internship positions can generate a stronger applicant pool, particularly in high-demand fields.

Internships offered to NIU students should be in alignment with the Position Statement on U.S. Internships developed by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, which addresses the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Employers seeking information about FLSA compliance or other legal issues relating to internships are encouraged to consult with their organization’s advisors/legal counsel.
