Love to swim? Perhaps you want to learn to swim? Or maybe you are looking for some low-impact exercise? From swimming laps, to private lessons, to lifeguard certification and canoeing classes, the aquatics program at NIU has something for everyone!

Located in Gabel Hall on the east side of campus, the facility offers a locker room and lockers as well as a variety of equipment for you to use. The pool contains 5 lap lanes, which are available during lap swim hours

Group Swim Lessons Spring 2017

Adult Beginner Swimming: This class is designed for participants with little or no swim experience. The goal is to be able to swim and feel comfortable in deep and shallow water.

Adult Intermediate Swimming: Refine your movements and techniques to become a more effective and efficient swimmer.

Private Swimming Lessons Spring 2017

Work one on one with an experienced instructor to meet your goals! Lessons are by appointment and taught in Gabel Hall Pool. After registering, the Aquatics Graduate Assistant will contact you to schedule a class time. Register online or at the Student Recreation Center membership desk. For more information regarding the class, please call the Assistant Director of Facility Operations at 815-753-9353.

Group Swim Lessons Spring 2017

Swim lessons are a great way to prepare your child to feel comfortable and safe in water, plus practice their skills. Our teachers will help your child improve overall as a swimmer. Parents do not directly participate in these courses.

Private Swim Lessons Spring 2017

Children's Pool Passes

Children of Campus Recreation members may use the pool, however each individual (adult & child) needs a pool pass to use of Gabel pool during open/lap swim times.

Each child (17 and under), must be accompanied by a fee paying adult at all times. Each child needs to possess a current pool pass to enter the pool. Children are encouraged to visit during Open Swim times. Lap Swim is held exclusively for lap swimmers.

Membership Fees

Pool passes are included with a Campus Recreation membership! Non-member pool passes are located below. Access is for Gabel Hall Pool only.

  • Adult Semester: $60*
  • Adult Summer: $60
  • Child Semester: $50

Gabel Pool Lockers/Towel Service

  • Locker Semester: $10
  • Locker Summer: $5
  • Towel Service Semester: $20
  • Towel Service Summer: $15

FAQ

Yes. Students paying fees for the NIU DeKalb campus have access to the pool. Students must present their current NIU OneCard for admittance.

The pool is located in Gabel Hall (SE corner of Annie Glidden Road and Stadium Drive). For additional information and directions, please contact Campus Recreation at 815-753-0231.

Various parking options are available for Gabel Hall. Except for metered parking, permits are required to park on campus. Please contact Parking Services at 815-753-1045 to purchase a parking pass.

Gabel Hall Pool can be rented for birthday parties, group outings, swim meets, scuba classes or other events. For more information please contact the Assistant Director of Facility Operations at (815) 753-9353.
