I started my teaching career as a Khmer language tutor working with many non-governmental organizations in Cambodia from 1991 to 2000. I also taught English at the Royal University of Phnom Penh from 1994 to 2000. In the summer of 2000, I received a Fulbright scholarship to teach the Khmer language in the Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI) at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

I came to Northern Illinois University in the fall of 2000 and I began designing and creating a Khmer language program for SEASITE, the Center for Southeast Asian Studies’ language-teaching website based here at Northern Illinois University. From 2003 to present, I designed supplemental teaching materials for classroom instruction for teaching Beginning Khmer 1 and 2 and Intermediate Khmer 1 and 2 at NIU. I also designed and implemented testing for Khmer language students at Yale University through the Directed Independent Language Study (DILS) program twice yearly.

Projects and Interests

I designed the Khmer language website for SEASITE, and I am interested in researching how instructional technology can enhance language learning.
