Symposium Organization

Chair, "Teaching World Music Symposium: From the Exotic to the Global," NIU, April 9-11, 2015.

This symposium was the first of its kind. It focused on four broad areas of pedagogical trends in world music: ethnomusicology, music education, performance and composition, and social/cultural studies. Keynote speakers included reputed ethnomusicologists and music educators Michael Bakan, Patricia Campbell and Jere Humphreys.

More than 100 people participated. Participants included several world music and music education textbook authors, including Terry Miller, Andrew Shahriari, Marvelene Moore and Bryan Burton. Participants came from China, Egypt, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Turkey and Zambia, as well as from all over the U.S.
