MFA Emphasis in Scenery Design

mfa-scenic-design

The area of scene design focuses on the interpretive and visual whole of a production’s planning. Specialized instruction in scene design is offered at several levels and complemented each semester by skill courses in drawing, painting and drafting (including computer-aided design).

Scene design students undergo an intense study of theatre in all its traditional forms including dance and opera. Building on this base, the students then examine the new fields of theatrical design for entertainment and music events, advertising and promotional events, corporate communications meetings, trade and industrial shows, theme parks and even design for electronic games. These broad and varied design experiences, on and off campus, prepare students to meet the full range of responsibilities facing the contemporary professional designer.
