Applicants to BFA in Acting, BFA in Design and Technology, and BA in Theatre Studies programs contact the school (contact information for each individual area below) to schedule an audition, portfolio presentation, or interview. Appointments are required for auditions or portfolio reviews. Auditions and interviews will take place at the Stevens Building beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until 4:00 p.m.

NOTE:  You can register for the BFA Dance Performance Talented Student Scholarship Audition here. You can download a copy of the Dance Scholarship Application here. The dance audition consists of a ballet class with modern and jazz dance combinations. There is no audition fee. Proper dance attire is required.

MFA in Acting 2019 Auditions

NIU will be recruiting a new class of MFA in Acting graduates in the spring of 2019 for acceptance into the program for the fall of 2019. NIU recruits on campus and at URTA unified auditions. Audition dates, times, requirements and information are below. NIU also hosts two, on campus, callback weekends. Callback auditions are by invitation only.

MFA On-Campus Audition Dates

Candidates for the specialization in acting are required to audition in person. Every candidate must choose and present two memorized audition pieces, a classical selection in verse and a contemporary piece. One selection must be in the comic mode and one serious. The total time of presentation should not exceed four minutes. The acting candidate is also asked to supply the audition committee with at least one current photograph and a resume. Candidates interested in auditioning for the MFA in Acting program on campus should email pskarbinski1@niu.edu to reserve an audition slot.

MFA in Acting Callback Audition Weekends

Callback auditions are by invitation only. Each callback date will be a full day. Please plan on arriving the night before. Your callback will consist of faculty led workshops, a Q & A session with current MFA actors, a tour of the building, and private interviews. Your day will culminate in the opportunity to sit in on a rehearsal or performance of our production of Hamlet.
