Parents

Study abroad offers your student the unique opportunity to learn while immersed in another culture. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to enrich their academic experience while at NIU.

No matter how long they're gone, students return from their time abroad with a broadened world perspective and heightened multicultural awareness. Intercultural competency, adaptability and appreciation of diversity are all valuable qualities that employers look for in an increasingly international job market.

To help guide your child though the study abroad process, you may want to purchase Study Abroad: A Parent’s Guide, published by NAFSA: Association of International Educators. Our staff is here to help address any administrative issues that may arise while your student is off campus.
