Are you attending NIU on any scholarships? Which one(s)?
NIU Scholars merit scholarship, Brewer Foundation Scholarship

What is your major, and why did you choose your field of study?
Organizational/Corporate Communications: I found that I am my best self when trying to communicate and help other people.

How did you learn about NIU, and why did you choose to attend?
I learned about NIU from a letter I received in the mail. I chose to attend because I was pushing myself out of my comfort zone to live and meet people in a new area that I’d never been before. NIU offers great programs, amazing financial aid, and a culture and life that I really fit into.

What has been your favorite event at NIU, and why?
I love the film festivals that NIU and the DeKalb community have put on. They are really awesome, and I always learn something as well as experience an awesome movie from it. A cool restaurant, The House Café, also has fun comedy nights and salsa nights every week.

What do you like about our campus and community?
Everyone is really open-minded and supportive. I love how diverse our campus is and being able to meet people from all over. I love—love—how there is always something going on, and new things pop up each year for me.

What has your experience inside the classroom been like at NIU?
Very one-on-one. I've never had a professor who didn't know my name or at least try very hard to learn it—even in lecture halls. If you are struggling in a class, we have amazing resources through an awesome tutoring center and a writing lab—along with many TA's, GA's and helpful professors with accessible office hours.

What is something you have experienced at NIU that you will be able to take with you into future endeavors in your field?
How to network and make lasting impressions and connections.

Would you recommend NIU to others and why? What’s a general piece of advice you’d give to someone starting college?
Definitely! NIU has an awesome campus that is easy to fit into. I think the best advice is getting involved, no matter what it is, as soon as you are settled in. It makes life way more fun.
