Community Service

Are you interested in finding meaningful volunteer opportunities? The Division of Student Affairs seeks to help student organizations and individuals connect to numerous opportunities for community service. You can choose from weekly, monthly, or annual service options including:

  • Saturday of Service – This event happens during Welcome Days
  • Make a Difference Day - A fall event to help area residents with lawn clean-up and other small neighborhood projects
  • NIU Cares Day - Our largest single day of service involving 900 students, faculty and staff and 70 service sites in DeKalb County
  • Huskie Alternative Breaks - A student service-learning trip offered within the United States and internationally with a social issue focus

We also offer several opportunities for students wishing to support DeKalb County community agencies

Besides the opportunities to serve noted above, there are more ways to get engaged in the community with the Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning through programs such as:

We highly encourage our university community to give back through service. Please contact us at 815-753-6511 for more information.
