Post-Master's Certificate in Nursing Education

About the Program

Want to train the next generation of nurses? Our CCNE certified Post-Master's Certificate in Nursing Education provides the coursework and the teaching experiences necessary to become a nurse educator in a variety of educational and clinical settings. The program is online and can be combined with our Doctor of Nursing Practice.

Program Mode of Delivery

100% of your courses are online. You will also have in-person clinicals.

Curriculum

Coursework includes classes, simulated laboratory experiences and two internships focused on supervised teaching experiences.

NURS 603 - Nursing Education Practicum: Direct Care (2) (if not completed within the previous three years)
NURS 621 - Foundations in Nursing Education I (3)
NURS 622 - Foundations in Nursing Education II (4)
NURS 623 - Nursing Education Practicum: Classroom Setting (3)

Applying to the Program

Submit the following to the School of Nursing:

  • A post-master’s certificate application  (pdf)
  • An official transcript from your master’s degree program in nursing
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • A copy of your current Illinois RN license
  • A one-page, single-spaced professional goals statement

If accepted into the certificate program, apply to the NIU Graduate School as a student-at-large and submit an official undergraduate transcript to the Graduate School.
