Kim Alifen graduated from NIU on December 11 with a degree in Kinesiology. Born here in the Schaumberg area, she was raised in Indonesia until she graduated high school.
She then went to college in Singapore for her Associates, originally majoring in illustration and eventually finishing her major in fine arts. After she got her Associates, she took a gap year and went back to Indonesia to coach recreational gymnastics at her mother’s studio.
Deciding that she wanted to continue coaching in the future, she came to NIU in the fall of 2013 to pursue a Kinesiology major. She plans to become a strength and conditioning coach or a personal trainer now that she has earned her degree. However, she has no plans to return to Indonesia, as she considers herself far too much accustomed to American culture to return.
Her advice for current students is “Just keep swimming. Do what needs to be done to succeed.”
