From the Desk of the Dean of Students

It was great to see so many of you at the Unity March last week! Being part of the Huskie Family means there are chances to come together, respectfully discuss our differing opinions and find common ground to celebrate.  It’s all part of the Northern Pact!

Consider an Internship: Explore online resources, attend a panel and grab lunch, talk to a career counselor about options, and get ready for the All-Majors Internship and Job Fair.

Learn to Lead: Leadership 101 will help you understand your personal leadership style, traits of effective leaders and participate in leadership activities.

Send Silence Packing: Know the signs of suicide and learn to help a friend in distress or get help if you need it.

CODE for a great community!  Our Northern Pact talks about being JUST in our actions and relationships and broadening our perspectives. Sign up to join hundreds of student org members participating in CODE workshops.

Whatever your week looks like, there are other students right there with you. Reach out and let them know you’ve got their back and share some Huskie Love … starting with Homecoming on Sunday!

Forward Together,

Kelly Wesener Michael, Ed.D.
Associate Vice President for Student Affairs
Chief Student Affairs Officer & Dean of Students

Ellington’s begins fall semester lunch service

Though parts of the Holmes Student Center are under construction, the students running Ellington’s restaurant want everyone to know they will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Menus showcase seasonal ingredients with heart-healthy and gluten-free options.

Students in the Hospitality and Tourism Management and Nutrition and Dietetics degree programs prepare and serve delicious, three-course meals with a theme at Ellington’s as part of their course requirements. Along with enjoying a great meal on campus, you have the opportunity to help students by sharing your comments about your experience.

Continuing this semester is the option to enjoy wine with your meal for $5 a glass. Wine will be selected for the menu based on wine-and-food pairings made by the students.

Seating is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with service until 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost is $10 per person.

Reservations are suggested. Huskie Bucks, checks, NIU meal coupons, cash and most credit cards are accepted. Call 815-753-1763 or
make reservations online.
