About Winter Break Housing
Can I stay during winter break?
Yes, if you live in Neptune West or New Hall East, you have signed up for winter break housing (which is separate from your normal fall/spring housing contract), and you are living here in both fall 2018 and spring 2019.
If you live in Northern View, your contract already lets you stay through the break if you are living here in the spring.
Can I stay during winter break even if I don't live in Neptune West or New Hall East?
If you don't live in Neptune West or New Hall East, winter break housing availability is limited and not guaranteed. You can log in above and request to be added to a wait list. Neptune West and New Hall East are the only residence halls open during winter break, so you may need to temporarily move if you want to stay on campus during winter break and do not live in one of those halls.
Will the halls be locked?
All residence halls will be locked during the break. You will use your NIU OneCard and hall entry card to enter your hall.
Main desks and the Northern View main office will be closed during the break.
What dining options are available?
Campus Dining locations and the Huskie Food Pantry will be closed during the break, but here are some dining options:
- Use Huskie Bucks at select off-campus dining locations.
- See a list of food pantries in the area. Call ahead before visiting these locations to verify their holiday hours.
Will mail be delivered?
U.S. mail will be distributed daily in Neptune West and New Hall East except on Sundays and official holidays. The front desks in Neptune West and New Hall East will be open from 3 to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays for package pickup. Private delivery services like UPS or FedEx will not typically make deliveries during the break period.
Whom do I call if there is an issue in my hall during winter break?
The front desks in Neptune West and New Hall East will only be open from 3 to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. You can call your hall's front desk number to be connected to the hall staff on duty when the desk is closed.
Can I have guests?
Yes, but you'll be responsible for escorting any guests you bring at all times.
