If you are thinking about attending NIU you probably have many questions about your housing and dining options. You may be wondering where you'll live on campus and what amenities you'll have in your room. Or maybe you are trying to create a budget and you need to calculate the cost of living in a residence hall versus commuting from home or off-campus.

Moving Out for Winter Break

It's almost closing time! If you have a booking in the spring, you can keep your things in your room, but unless you've signed up for winter break housing, you'll need to move out. Check out your winter break move out checklist.

Sign Up for One-Semester Spring Contracts

Where will you be living this spring? You can sign up for a one-semester on-campus contract that ends in May. Over 3,500 students enjoy the convenience and peace of mind of living in our residence halls each year. Dining, internet and utilities are included in your room rate. In most cases you can use financial aid to help cover your housing and dining fees. Many residents walk or bike to class or ride the HuskieLine that stops at each residence hall.

Become a Community Advisor or House Leader

You can now apply to become a CA or a House Leader in a Living-Learning Community for fall 2018 and spring 2019.

Door Access Updates

The following changes to door access are in effect through the end of the fall semester.

  • Neptune East, Central, North and West: 24/7 card access entrances for Neptune residents; NIU community members can use OneCard for access 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; Main entrance to Neptune East will be student staffed for university guests Monday through Friday, when campus offices are open, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Stevenson, Grant, and Gilbert: 24/7 card access entrances for residential students assigned to these residence halls; NIU Community members can use OneCard access 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; All enrolled students will have access to residence halls during scheduled hours of operation for ResTech, classes, Writing Center and limited Tutoring Services. Please refer to their specific schedules.
  • New Hall: 24/7 control access entrances for New Hall residents; NIU community members can use OneCard access 7 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for access to university services in this complex.

Be a Tour Guide

Tour Coordinators are student staff members who help organize welcoming and informative residence hall tours and events for prospective students and their families. This position works closely with the hall's Open House Coordinator. Apply online for the Tour Coordinator position.
