Who We Are

The Gender and Sexuality Resource Center (GSRC) acknowledges the historical impacts of individuals who identify with womanhood and/or femininity as well as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer-expansive identities. Furthermore, we celebrate all identities through a social justice and collaborative lens, centering the experiences of those with historically marginalized identities and multiple underrepresented identities. At the GSRC, our staff is committed to helping students find resources and support to enhance their campus experience and academic success.

We contribute to the NIU value of diversity, equity, inclusion, and help build supportive spaces around campus where students can be their whole selves. Our collaborative partners include: the Asian American Resource Center, Center for Black Studies, Latino Resource Center, and the Undocumented Student Resource Center and many academic and student affairs departments.

NIU's GSRC is professionally staffed, supported by graduate research assistants and undergraduate student staff. We also offer on-site space for Huskies to attend events, volunteer to educate their peers, or study in a relaxing environment. Through professional development and maintaining relationships with women, gender, LGBTQ+ professional affiliations and organizations, we stay current with best practice and emerging knowledge and research.

The GSRC was named in Campus Pride's 2022 Best of the Best Colleges and Universities for LGBTQ+ Students) and was ranked The Best College for LGBTQ+ Students in Illinois) by BestColleges.
