Documentation Styles

Although graduate students in different fields of study may use different documentation styles, all students must follow NIU guidelines for formatting: master's thesis format guidelines (PDF) or doctoral dissertation format guidelines (PDF). Please do not confuse documentation style with formatting.

The documentation style you use for your thesis or dissertation depends on your field of study and/or the recommendation of your thesis/dissertation committee.

The following style sheets are abbreviated summaries and do not replace the style's full form. You should consult the style's complete manual for a thorough understanding of its specifications.
