Transfer2Transfer Mentoring Program

The Transfer2Transfer (T2T) mentoring program matches new transfer students with another student who has successfully transferred to NIU. This informal program allows you to communicate and meet with your mentor as often as you would like. Having a mentor can help you:

  • Learn the ropes of university life
  • Get involved on campus
  • Find answers to your academic and personal questions
  • Locate and use university and community resources
  • Build your network
  • Set goals and learn how to succeed at NIU

Mentor a Transfer Student

Do you remember your transfer experience? Use what you know to help a new student! We are looking for students who have successfully transferred to NIU and are interested in volunteering to mentor a new transfer student. As a T2T mentor, you will:

  • Help a new transfer student navigate the campus and NIU’s resources so they can have a smooth transition
  • Meet with your mentee as often as you both would like, according to your schedule
  • Communicate with your mentee via in person meetings, email, phone or social media
  • Gain valuable volunteering and mentoring experience
  • Build your resume
  • Use your experience and skills to help a new student

Application Process

After applying, you will receive information about your mentee mid-August. You will be invited to our T2T kick-off social at the end of August to officially meet your mentee and other mentor pairs.
