Field Schools

Field schools allow students to engage in active learning as they apply what they learn from lectures into the field often in the same day. Students may partake in field schools in the United States and Abroad. This type of engaged learning is good for students who want to:

  • Work closely with faculty
  • Get hands on experience
  • Apply what they’ve learned in the field
  • Experience different cultures
  • Work cooperatively with their peers
  • Gain real life experience in their area of study

“You can’t match what we learned in the field. In class, we learn principle. At field camp we learn procedure.”

- Joann Losavio, 2010 field school participant
