Research Interests

We are interested in finding out how radiation kills cancer cells by using high LET radiation sources such as 125I decay, fast neutrons and thermal neutrons. Our recent projects include investigations aimed at looking at chromatin damage by 125I decay and neutron irradiation of human breast cancer cells, brain cancer cells and ovarian cancer cells. We are especially interested in investigating epigenetic mechanisms for cell death that quantify DNA double strand breaks (as detected by the formation of gH2AX foci imaged by confocal laser scanning microscopy) as they relate to apoptosis versus autophagy in human cancer cells.
