Transparency Factors (in Form and Content)

This exhibition will examine the spectrum of interpretation of the word “transparency”; from the literal to the figurative. Artists who explore both the visual phenomenon of transparency and the concept of “transparency” in content, be that process, funding, idea or material.

Exhibition Proposals 

The NIU Art Museum’s Exhibition Advisory Committee accepts exhibition proposals throughout the year. The committee reviews the proposals once a year. The museum calendar is usually scheduled at least two years in advance, and we may retain your submission for future opportunities. Please include a SASE if you wish your packet to be returned to you.

Gallery Specifications

The NIU Art Museum has three exhibition galleries including the north gallery, rotunda gallery and south gallery as well as administrative offices and art storage handling areas, not shown. Any deliveries of artwork are to be coordinated and scheduled with the assistant director and curator.

Gallery Hours

Free and open to the public
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Thursday: Noon-7 p.m.
Sunday Noon-4 p.m.
By appointment for group tours.

Closed during the summer, between exhibitions and during university holidays.


The NIU Art Museum is located on the first floor, west end of Altgeld Hall, on the corner of College Avenue and Castle Drive on the main campus of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL.
