Through AIM HIGH and NIU partnership funds, we’re investing over $5 million in additional scholarships.

Northern Illinois University believes a life-changing education should be within reach of everyone. That’s why we:

  • Have kept undergraduate costs the same the last three years.
  • Don’t charge you for taking classes beyond 12 credit hours.
  • Guarantee you the same tuition rate for four continuous years.

Over 80 percent of our undergraduate Huskies already receive financial aid. We are continuing to make your future our focus by increasing our available scholarships nearly 30 percent for fall 2019.

Freshmen Excellence AIM HIGH Scholarships are additional awards offered to merit scholarship recipients entering fall 2019 who also meet the AIM HIGH grant requirements.

Awards may be reduced when combining multiple scholarships.

Transfer Excellence AIM HIGH Scholarships are offered to transfer merit scholarship recipients who also meet the AIM HIGH grant requirements. Transfer Excellence AIM HIGH Scholarships are renewable to students who continue to meet the residency, income, GPA and full-time enrollment requirements.

Qualifying entering transfer students who have a transfer GPA of 2.50-3.24 may be eligible for a one-time Transfer Achievement Scholarship.

If you:

  • Attended any school in DeKalb County or Chicago Public Schools
  • Transfer from Kishwaukee College or the City Colleges of Chicago

You may be able to receive the scholarships below:

  • Qualifying entering freshmen who will be 2019 graduates of a DeKalb County high school (and are not a recipient of the NIU Scholars merit award) may be eligible for a one-time $3,000 DeKalb County Scholarship.
  • DeKalb County high school graduates who are active members of Youth Engaged Philanthropy (YEP) may be eligible for an additional $1,000 award if they meet the AIM HIGH family income thresholds.
  • Awards may be reduced when combining multiple scholarships.

Qualifying entering transfer students from Kishwaukee College may be eligible for a one-time $3,000 Kishwaukee College Transfer Scholarship.

Qualifying entering transfer students from City Colleges of Chicago, who are current STAR Scholars, may be eligible for a $3,000 City Colleges Transfer Scholarship (renewable for a second year with 3.0 GPA).
