As program coordinator, Rebekah Kohli organizes Women's Studies Program events, including the campus celebration of Women's History Month in March; the Conference for Young Women; as well as faculty associate lectures and guest speakers. She is the program's web master and was responsible for transitioning the program's website to NIU's new web presence format. She catalogs and maintains the program's library.
Kohli is currently the faculty advisor for NIU's Women's Rights Alliance, a student organization devoted to "improving the status of women through action and education." She is also an LGBT Ally. Her awards and achievements include a 2013 Supportive Professional Staff Presidential Award for Excellence, a 2009 Women Who Make a Difference Award, an LGBT Ally Award , and a HECA Innovation Grant from the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
Kohli graduated from NIU in 2003 with a M.A. in Art History and a Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies. While she was working towards her master's degree, she served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Women's Studies Program for two years. After graduating, she was hired by Waubonsee Community College to design and teach a new art history course on women and art. Since then, she has taught art history and Women's Studies courses at NIU, Waubonsee, and the College of DuPage. Her research interests include the history of Western women's art, the history of feminist art in the United States, feminist theory, and feminist pedagogy.
