NIU Cosponsored Study Abroad Application Checklist


FOR NON-NIU STUDENTS ONLY

NIU STUDENTS PLEASE CONTACT THE STUDY ABROAD OFFICE FOR YOUR PROGRAM-SPECIFIC APPLICATION MATERIALS.


The admission process begins when the NIU Study Abroad Office receives all completed forms and your application fee.

A complete application includes all of the following materials. Please keep this checklist for your records. Study Abroad staff review files regularly and will contact you if any documents are missing. Call the Study Abroad Office to find out about the status of your application. Date Mailed Application Materials*
  A completed study abroad application (please contact the Study Abroad Office for the application for your program).
  A check for $45 or $200, depending on your chosen program, payable to Northern Illinois University. The non-refundable application charge will be applied to your program cost if you are accepted into the program. Please staple the check to your application.
  A completed personal statement. If you plan to take advanced foreign-language classes on your study-abroad program, the personal statement must be in your language of specialization, with another statement in English.
  TWO letters of recommendation and a language recommendation if you are applying to a program that requires foreign-language background.
  A sealed official transcript with updated grades.
 

NIU Undergraduate Application for Admission (visiting student status)

  A second check made payable to NIU for $30 (non-refundable). This check is the undergraduate application fee to Northern Illinois University (this fee may also be paid by credit card).

*Application requirements may vary by program and additional application materials may be required for certain programs.
