NIU Administered (Faculty Directed) Study Abroad Application Checklist
The admission process begins when the NIU Study Abroad Office receives all completed forms and your application fee.
Please keep this checklist for your records. Study Abroad staff review files regularly and will contact you if any documents are missing.

A sealed official transcript with updated grades. Applies to non-NIU students only. Undergraduate applications: Non-NIU students must request an official transcript from the post-secondary institution they are currently attending or have most recently attended. Student-at-Large applicants: Non-NIU students who are applying to a program to earn graduate level credit are required to submit an official transcript showing that a baccalaureate degree was earned.
A clear and readable copy of the first page of passport. If you have not yet applied for a passport you can indicate this on page 2 of the application.
Passport size photographs (number of photos required varies per program)
$200 deposit (check or money order) made payable to Northern Illinois University. This deposit will be applied to your program cost if you are accepted into the program. Please staple the check to your application.
