Why did you decide to study abroad?

I decided to study abroad to develop my Spanish skills. As a Spanish major I knew that there was no way that I would be able to become as fluent as I hoped to be without living among native Spanish speakers. I also wanted to get out and see the world!

Favorite memory from studying abroad:

My favorite memory is probably the first time that a group of us students decided to take a trip to the beach on our own. It was really rewarding to know that we had successfully traveled through the country without help from anyone else. Although we didn’t go far, it was a great feeling once we figured out how to maneuver the several forms of public transportation we had to take to get there. It was also the first time I got to see the beautiful beaches in the Dominican, which was certainly unforgettable.

Favorite excursion or adventure:

My favorite excursion was when we went to the 27 Charcos. It is a series of 27 waterfalls that we go to jump and slide down. I had never done anything like this before, but I hope I can do something like it again. It was incredible!

Why do you think that it is important to study abroad?

Studying abroad is incredibly important and beneficial to everyone because it gives a whole new perspective on the world. No matter where you go, you are able to learn about how other people live and what their culture is like. Studying abroad will expand your awareness of the rest of the world, as well as give perspective on how other people go about their lives versus how we do here in the United States.

Any tips you have for students interested in studying abroad?

Just do it! You will never look back and say, “I wish I hadn’t studied abroad, experienced the world, met incredible new people and made unforgettable memories”. There is absolutely no reason NOT to study abroad!
