Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on your schedule. Some company projects are 2-4 weeks long while others may take a couple of months to a semester. We have even had some companies want to do various projects throughout the year with us.
That’s the neat thing about Springboard. You can work on different types of work to help you decide what you like or don’t like to do. You may find an area you really like that you hadn’t even thought of before.
We understand that you are in classes and we try to keep your schedule as flexible as possible. If you know you need extra time to work on homework, let us know and we won’t schedule you during that time.
Springboard interns work on projects from beginning to end. We think it’s important that you present your findings and/or recommendations to the company personnel. Before your presentation, we rehearse with you so you are totally comfortable during the actual presentation. This is a great way to boost your confidence and start building your own professional network of contacts. Our staff will support you every step of the way!
That’s okay. We will help you gain experience. We know you are talented and have lots of skills. We can teach you the rest.
The minimum GPA is a 2.0.
Absolutely! Our staff, graduate assistants, and other interns will help you. We teach you how to analyze the problem, research the data, and identify recommendations for the company. We are with you every step of the way.
Our schedule is Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. You can come in to work when your schedule allows during those hours.
You will primarily work with the Springboard staff. There will be situations when the expertise of faculty will be utilized. The Springboard staff works with advisors to make sure everyone is up-to-date.
We need both undergraduate and graduate students. Some of our projects are really complex and need the expertise of a grad student, while others are great projects for undergrads.
Not at this time. Hopefully we can offer credit in the future.
You will come to work at NIU and never have to leave campus unless you are meeting with a company. With a regular internship, you are usually working directly at the company’s location and are in place for a semester or longer. We do work with Career Services so your transcript can be documented that you have completed an internship with us.
13. Do I get paid?
Yes! That’s an added benefit. You do get paid when you are a Springboard Intern.
