About Lydia:

Leadership roles: Theme Columnist for Honorable Mentions and Accountant Assistant in SILD Department

I am involved in: Research Rookies (Fall 2013), Honors Student Association (Fall 2013), Honorable Mentions (Fall 2013), and Alpha Phi Omega (Fall 2013).

Scholarships I have received include the A. Franklin Pilchard Foundation Scholarship, the Horatio Alger Scholarship, and the NIU Scholars Scholarship.

An academic goal: After obtaining my undergraduate degree, I plan to attend graduate school for genetic engineering.

Career goal: In my future I hope to become a Genetic Engineer or Immunologist. I want to help cure diseases and provide treatment for the sick.

How will Research Rookies help you further your academic and career goals?: Research Rookies will help me further my academic and career goals by giving me the opportunity to work in the lab. Being a freshman and having lab experience is a very big deal. I am thankful to be given this opportunity and the chance to explore my interests in the field that I love.

In my free time I enjoy playing tennis and hanging out with my friends. I have played the bass for eight years and playing beautiful music is good way to unwind after a long day.
