The area of graduate study in clinical psychology is designed to be completed in six years of full-time study, including a one-year internship (see Admissions/Outcomes for information on actual times to completion in recent years).
Part-time applicants are not accepted.
Thirty semester hours must be taken for the master's degree. Of these, at least 15 hours will consist of the basic courses, listed below, and 6 hours will be thesis credit, with additional credits made up of elective courses.
For the doctoral program, 90 semester hours are required beyond the baccalaureate degree, including at least 18 semester hours of dissertation credit. The program requires each student to complete at least 3 academic years of full-time graduate study at Northern Illinois University and a 12 month internship prior to awarding the doctoral degree.
