Executive Vice President and Provost
Raymond W. Alden III was appointed Executive Vice President and Provost, beginning July 1, 2006. He received a BA/BS in Biology from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida and a Ph.D in Zoology from the University of Florida . Dr. Alden spent nearly a decade at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, first as dean of sciences, then as the chief academic officer. Prior to that he spent 21 years at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia where he served on the faculty and, during the last 15 years, as director of ODU's multidisciplinary Applied Marine Research Laboratory.
Responsibilities
The Provost is the chief academic officer of the university. He is also designated as the Executive Vice President. He is responsible for the administration of the Division of Academic Affairs. The provost serves on the President's Senior Cabinet as well as the Administrative Operations Cabinet. He chairs the Academic Planning Council, the University Council Personnel Committee, and the Council of Deans. He serves as university liaison with the Board of Trustees' Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and Personnel Committee, and he also participates with other state university and community college chief academic officers in regular meetings with the academic staff of the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
