The new IFMA SFP Credential Program course is designed to provide FM professionals, related industry professionals, and product and service providers with a complete picture of how SFPs can improve the sustainability of facilities in all eight major categories of sustainable facility management as defined by IFMA: energy, water, materials and resources, workplace management, indoor environmental quality, quality of services, waste and site impact.
Northern Illinois University is one of a limited number of IFMA licensed University providers of this program. Our team of experienced and accredited Facility Management Instructors brings real-world practical experience and examples to the classroom.
The series of three focus areas will equip the SFP to integrate sustainability efforts with the organization’s values and strategies, present a business case for a sustainability initiative, evaluate initiatives from a financial point of view, and track and report accomplishments:

Focus Area 1: Strategy and Alignment for Sustainable Facility Management: This section summarizes key concepts related to sustainable facility management from the organizational level and illustrates linkages and actions facility managers must take into consideration in order to make the business case for sustainability in their own facilities.
Focus Area 2: Managing Sustainable Facilities: This section looks in depth at the process of aligning a facility’s sustainability plan with an organization’s vision, strategic goals and policies. It takes the same strategies promoted in an SFP’s business case for sustainability within the organization, and provides the details behind the plans to prepare for, lead and implement those changes.
Focus Area 3: Operating Sustainable Facilities: This section looks at ways in which SFP’s can operate their facilities in a more sustainable manner through changes in building equipment and technology as well as changes in operations and maintenance procedures. Focus area 2 is organized around the eight major categories of sustainable facility management – energy, water, materials and resources, workplace management, indoor environmental quality, quality of services, waste and site impact – from inputs, through facility processes, to outputs.

Not only will you enhance your sustainability FM knowledge and skills, and qualify for the SFP credential (upon successful completion of the three final SFP assessments), the materials will serve as an ongoing reference. The course investment includes all course materials and SFP final assessments, but does not cover the SFP application fee.

Participants registering within 5 days of class start will need to pick up materials from the course instructor at the first class session.

IL VETERANS AND IL NATIONAL GUARD GRANT PROGRAMS: This program is not eligible for funding under the IL Veterans and IL National Guard Grants. IVG and ING grants apply only to those programs assessing tuition and mandatory fees. NIU Outreach is licensed to deliver this program by the sponsoring professional organization. The registration fee for this program is not based on tuition and fees and includes course materials, licensing fees, catering services, and instructional costs not covered by the IVG/ING grants.
