DeKalb – NIU’s Information Technology Services (ITS) sustained a power failure as a result of the earthquake that struck the northern Illinois region early Wednesday.
The power failure caused a loss of connectivity to the data center that hosts most of the university’s computer and information services. Power was restored within minutes, and ITS technicians began working to restore service shortly after the earthquake occurred. At this time, all services and systems have been brought back on line.
Overview and status of services affected:
| Blackboard | restored as of 10:29 a.m. |
| GroupWise E-Mail | restored as of 7:30 a.m. |
| MyNIU/HR/FMS | restored as of 12:15 p.m. |
| OnBase | restored as of 10:20 a.m. |
| Online Directory | restored as of 12:25 p.m. |
| University Outreach (non-credit registration) |
restored as of 10:35 a.m. |
| Web Services | restored as of 6 a.m. |
NIU officials also have confirmed that there was no damage to campus buildings and no injuries reported as a result of the earthquake.
