Bar Passage and Employment

Bar Passage

NIU provides students with a variety of tools and resources to prepare for the bar examination. Our most recent ultimate bar pass rate is 85.71%. This figure, collected and distributed by the American Bar Association, reflects the bar passage outcomes across all U.S. jurisdictions within two years of graduation. The most recently available statistics, released in February 2021, reflect the bar passage rates of 2018 calendar year graduates.

Employment Success and Career Support

NIU has had consistently strong employment outcomes. Due to the small size of our student body, the staff in our Office of Career Opportunities and Professional Development can provide students and alumni with personalized insight into, and awareness of, a wide range of career options. Extensive one-on-one counseling is offered to students and alumni to help them in the selection of suitable employment opportunities. The Office of Career Opportunities and Professional Development can also assist students and almuni with resume preparation, job search strategy, and interviewing skills.

Clinical Experience and Externships

NIU's unique and innovative clinical experiences and externships equip our students with hands-on, practical experience to prepare them for entry into the profession and the successful practice of law.

Networking Opportunities

Networking events and opportunities demonstrate the strong sense of camaraderie at NIU Law. Our Alumni Association is committed to actively working with current students to provide guidance, support and assistance with employment placement. The Office of Career Opportunities and Professional Development works with the Alumni Association to coordinate social receptions and speaking engagements that facilitate networking opportunities between practicing attorneys and current students.
