Testimonials

"Latinx Oral History was one of the first courses I took when I transferred to NIU. I fell in love with oral history after that class, so much so that I applied to the Summer Research Opportunities program to continue working on the NIU Latinx Oral History Project. This program gave me a more in-depth experience with the oral history project. I conducted and transcribed eight oral history interviews and prepared a poster and presented my research at the Summer Research Symposium. I feel that I came into my current position more than prepared to work on and develop an oral history project. My work also involves talking to different universities about establishing partnerships and collaborations with the museum's oral history project."by Vivian Meade, class of 2020

"My greatest memory of being at the Latino Center was when I was hired on in January 2014 during my junior year, as the first of many undergraduate research assistants to assist with the Latinx Oral History Project. It was an opportunity that permitted me to learn about Latinx decolonization, equity, and delve into my own Salvadoran roots. The CLLAS professors and staff supported my research interests as well as other endeavors that compelled me to share with incoming students the wonderful opportunities that came with being an undergraduate research assistant and doing the Latino and Latin American Studies minor. If it were not for this opportunity and the people I met at the center, I would not be where I am today."by Sandra González, class of 2015
