What is Industrial & Systems Engineering?

Industrial and Systems Engineering is a system-oriented discipline concerned with the design, installation, management, operation and improvement of systems that produce goods and services.

The Industrial and Systems Engineering discipline follows an integrated approach that considers the entire life cycle of a product or service produced, from design through production, delivery, and customer support.

The goal of Industrial and Systems Engineering is to design and improve performance in products or systems by using resources efficiently. Industrial and systems engineers are concerned with efficiency, quality, productivity, manufacturability, environmental impact, cost-effectiveness, timeliness, and customer and systems safety and customer satisfaction.

The skills you gain as Industrial and Systems Engineer do not only apply to manufacturing, but it also encompasses service industries, with many IEs employed in entertainment industries, shipping and logistics businesses, and health care organizations.
