If you have problems with your MicroFridge, call the Work Request Office at 815-753-4948.
Each student room is furnished with a combination refrigerator/freezer/microwave. A unit is shared by students in a double, triple, or suite.
You should inspect the MicroFridge when you move in. Verify the working condition of the unit. Inspect to ensure all parts are present. Report any malfunction or missing /broken items to the Work Request Office within 30 days after move-in. After 30 days, residents will be charged for missing parts or damages to their MicroFridge.
Do not place MicroFridge on top of anything.
Do not set or store any heavy items on top of the MicroFridge as this affects its ability to function properly.
The university-supplied MicroFridge must be plugged in (follow instructions provided on the unit).
Before placing food in the refrigerator, turn the temperature setting (knob in refrigerator) to 3.
The MicroFridges have a safety function that turns off the refrigerator temporarily while the microwave is working. When the microwave is finished, the refrigerator will turn back on automatically after a brief delay.
Microwaves that have a dial timer (not digital touch pad) need to be set to zero for the refrigerator to turn on again.
Avoid slamming the microwave door as this damages the operating switch and can cause the microwave to malfunction.
Ice cube trays are not provided.
Defrost Your MicroFridge!
Defrosting the MicroFridge regularly is one of your responsibilities as a resident of your residence hall room.
Build up of frost inside the freezer is completely normal and must be defrosted manually when it gets to be more than ½ inch thick.
Defrost the freezer by unplugging the unit, removing the items, and leaving the freezer door open. Remove large ice pieces as they come loose and wipe up any excess water with a towel.
Use the ice scraper to remove loose frost. Do not chisel at solid ice pieces; wait until they melt!
Make sure the freezer is completely DRY before plugging the unit back in.
Before changing rooms or moving out, defrost the freezer and clean the refrigerator and microwave. There is a $30 charge for not cleaning the unit and an additional $30 charge for not defrosting the freezer.
