Mail and Package Services

Mail is delivered Monday through Saturday (except holidays) while classes are in session. Mail is typically out in individual resident mailboxes by mid-afternoon. We only accept mail and packages addressed to students who are contracted as residents of the hall.

To send mail to residents:
Name (full name rather than nickname)
Hall and Room Number
(Include side A, B, C or D tower/wing)
Street Address (See list at bottom of page)

When you leave NIU, your mail is automatically forwarded to the permanent address on file unless you leave another specific address with the hall staff when you check-out.

We routinely accept deliveries from:

• U.S. Postal Service
• UPS

The main desk will put a notice in your room mailbox to alert you if you receive items for which you need to sign. You will need to have your NIU OneCard or other picture ID when you sign for and pick up special deliveries. These include:

• Certified letters
• Special delivery letters
• Parcel post packages
• Special delivery packages
• Flowers
• Personally delivered mail

We do not accept:

• Postage due letters or COD packages.
• Packages marked as “perishable” or containing clearly perishable items.
• Food items (e.g., pizza, survival kits).
• Personal deliveries of packages.
• Personal items to be “held” for a resident: coats, bags, keys, etc.
• Letters or fliers that do not come through the U.S. Postal Service.
• Political materials.
• Commercial advertisements.
• Advertising co-sponsored by a student organization.
• Items received for commercial use purposes that are contrary to residence hall policy.
