What is the goal of the Peer Mentor Summit?

The summit is sponsored by the University Honors Program and co-sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning, the Office of First-and Second-Year Experience, and by the Office of the Provost.  The goal of the summit is to provide the NIU community with information to better peer mentor relationships and to facilitate the growth of mentoring at NIU. 

Who is invited?

Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to attend, especially those who are currently mentoring or plan to mentor other students. Students who are interested in getting involved in mentoring programs on campus are also encouraged to attend. Registration is open to not only NIU students, but to prospective NIU students from area community colleges.

What can I expect?

We have worked hard to put together an enlightening and inspiring day of guest lectures, peer leader presentations, and interactive discussions on a variety of different topics to make this a one of a kind experience.  The keynote address will be given by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, Dr. Eric Weldy.

The rest of the time will be spent in various breakout sessions where presentations will be given on mentoring, diversity, academics, professionalism, and so much more.  Lunch will be provided for all attendees as well as pens and folders including relevant materials for the day.

Attendees will have an opportunity to choose a preferred lunch option when completing the registration survey, but if you have specific food allergies, please contact Lauren Nale at laurennale@gmail.com .

When and where is the summit?

The summit will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 10:00am-3:00pm in the Altgeld Hall Ballroom on the NIU DeKalb campus.

On the day of the summit, attendees will be able to park in the Visitor Parking lot located on Carroll Avenue.  Attendees should also come to the summit dressed in business casual attire.
