Isn't it time to get out and see the world? You can via a study abroad course offered by the NIU Department of History. As funding and enrollment permit, we organize study abroad experiences in the summer session, frequently in collaboration with other NIU programs.
Over the past several years, the history department has provided study abroad experiences in England, Ireland, Malaysia, Japan and Ghana. In these programs, you will travel to another country and take one or more NIU courses for NIU credit. While there, you will visit social and cultural sites and expand your knowledge of the wider world.
Taking a study abroad course can be a great way to learn about history outside of the classroom. It's one thing to read about Angkor Wat or the coast of West Africa. It's quite another to walk there. Besides giving you a new perspective on life, studying abroad will also help you in your career. As the world becomes ever more globally connected, employers look for people with cross-cultural competencies. Studying abroad will help you become a global citizen.
